flagwave.gifMighty Solutions to Gigantic Problemsflagwave.gif

How many times do we fail to remember that God is bigger and more powerful than anything we could ever experience in life?  As my son prepared to leave for Army Reserves basic training and advanced training in wheeled vehicle mechanics, I felt like I couldn’t protect him anymore as his mother.  I could no longer watch over him and see that he was OK. I couldn’t even call him.  It was a helpless feeling for sure! The “what ifs” came into focus…..we’re at war in the middle east fighting terrorists who threaten our freedom and have kept others from being free! The unit he was assigned to following training was currently serving in Iraq.

At basic graduation the officer in charge of the ceremony said to us parents, “Take a good look at this outstanding and brave group of young men and women…most of them will go off to fight this war on terror. Pray for them, and may God bless this great country!”

All of us parents shed tears at that statement. Our children joined at war time.

Then I thought of David and his victory over Goliath.  I thought of that saying, “God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called!” We all have “giants” that threaten our security, our sense of peace, our joy. David wasn’t equipped on his own to face this giant enemy.  God gave David exactly what he needed, when he needed it. And all the glory was His!

This awesome and powerful God performed a task through this little stone in a slingshot that would resonate throughout eternity!  Over and over again God proves to us that He can handle what we cannot.  He continually helps us face our “giants” in life, and performs personal miracles that help us wind up in victory over fear and defeat. He proves that He can meet our needs. He can equip us when we are inadequate. He alone is God….and that with Him, our simple stones become mighty solutions!

I pray that my son will think of David and Goliath in the eight years he’s enlisted, and during those times when he feels inadequate and not fully equipped (mentally, physically, spiritually). The next few years are a giant challenge for all of these young men and women who volunteered to serve this great country.  They will all face fear and uncertainty at some point in their military service. I pray they hold onto the thought that God will give them all they need to meet the challenge. I pray that God will provide them with just the right “stones”. There is a stone for every Goliath we face!  Each of these warriors felt a calling upon their lives. And we are proud of them for heeding the call!  As a mother, I have a mixture of emotions…but even though I will not have my son in my vision at times, our GOD will, and He will be standing ready to equip him for whatever he faces, wherever he goes.

Psalm 18 1-3

I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.
