THE ROBE OF JESUS
The robe that Jesus wore
Was not elegant or fine,
It was not the latest fashion
Just a garment of simple design.
It became dusty at times
From the endless miles He walked
In company with His disciples
As about issues of life they talked.
Jesus wore this plain garment the day
That He was baptized by John.
It was the garment He slept in
When the long day was done.
It was the same garment He had on
When before all who were gathered there
The sinful woman with her tears
Bathed His tired feet with her hair.
Jesus was dressed in this homespun cloth
When He healed the man who could not see
It was this garment He wore on those dangerous
Trips by boat across the sea of Galilee.
If I can only touch the hem of His garments
Reasoned the woman with disease of the blood
Faithfully touching that plain garment that day
Caused healing power from Jesus to flood.
Many others were miraculously healed
Just by touching the fabric of this man
This man who was also God on earth
Come down from heaven with salvation’s plan.
The Roman soldiers unabashedly sat down
And cast lots to see who would possess
The garment of the Jews’ crucified king
Though His kingship they would not confess.
This garment would be priceless if owned today
Because of the ones healed with just a touch
But the power lay not in this plain garment
It was in the man who in death gave so much.
Jesus wore garments that were simple
His clothes weren’t of the latest fashion
They were only garments worn by a man
Of unmatched love and compassion.
